  • The IMO Certification is a valuable safety certification for upholstery fabrics used on commercial ships. The International Maritime Organization (IMO), a specialized agency of the United Nations, developed the certification as part of the International Code for Fire Safety Systems (FSS Code) under the SOLAS Convention. The FSS Code aims to reduce the risk of fire and improve emergency response on commercial ships. Upholstery fabrics must pass fire safety regulations set by the IMO to obtain certification. The IMO developed the Fire Test Procedure (FTP) Code, which includes testing procedures for flammability. Part 8 of the FTP Code specifically tests the flammability of upholstery fabrics using standards from the International Standards Organization (ISO).
